On World Hand Hygiene Day, Byotrol plc firmly supports the World Health Organisation’s initiative to recognise the improvement that good hand hygiene practices bring to the culture and safety of any workplace or public space.
The 2022 World Hand Hygiene Day theme is “Unite for safety, clean your hands” and, with parts of the world still engulfed in the COVID-19 pandemic, it could not be more appropriate, relevant, and needed.
Practicing correct and effective hand hygiene at the right times (such as after using the toilet or before and after contact with food) and with the right products, dramatically helps to reduce the risk of the spread of diseases which, in many parts of the world, can prove fatal. In the Western World we often take for granted the access we have to clean water sources and effective cleaning materials. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has increased everyone’s awareness of the importance of practicing effective hand hygiene.
Unfortunately, the large increase in the use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers has also generated a rise in skin damage, as shown in a survey conducted by YouGov, where 47% of the adults in the UK surveyed had experienced skin damage due to the use of hand sanitiser since March 2020.
Worryingly, 25% of the respondents were found to be concerned about using hand sanitiser due to the risk of skin damage. Unfortunately, whilst the people visiting your facility have reservations about using hand sanitiser, it likely means hand hygiene compliance is at risk.
